Out and About
I'm heading abroad for a vacation in England for the next few weeks; so
if possible, this blog will be even more quiet than it has been.
Beyond Ruby, I keep my eyes open for anything new involving the web 2.0
and AJAX. Mostly because they are delightfully misused and broad catch
all phrases that impart a certain coolness to any conversation.
The latest to catch my eye are one good and one ugly thing (the bad is too easy to pick on). So the good:
flickr. I have
been browsing through flickr recently and I can't wait to get back from
my trip and upload some pictures. Very clean and well executed, and
most importantly a useful application that just seems to belong on the
web. I realize I'm a little late on this one, but good is good, even if
I'm slow to catch up.
On to the ugly:
ajaxWrite. I
don't get the excitement over this one. From a technical standpoint it
is interesting to me, but what value do I get from just having an
online (and relatively bland looking) version of Notepad I can use
through a browser? Now if you added collaboration tools, version
control, discussion, etc. than it starts to get interesting. From what
I hear, then you have
Writely (currently in closed beta).
Anyway, I'll be back in a few weeks to see who else I can pick on...
