MVP Summit Notes

This past week I had the opportunity to attend the MVP Summit for all the work I do in the community: San Diego .Net User Group Board, Speaking at User Groups and Code Comps, organizing Code Camps, and also organizing one day conferences here in San Diego.  It was great to meet MVPs from all over the globe (over 90 countries were represented) and from all areas of the U.S.

I also had the opportunity to connect with members of the various members in the Developer and SQL Server product teams.  It was a great week and it was fun to meet everyone.  One of the more interesting events was the keynote event with Bill Gates including Q&A from the MVPs.

One of the more interesting questions raised was a guy who got up and started talking about this Altair Computer that he just happened to have stored away along with a manual from MITS Altair Basic which was the first software product from a small company called Microsoft.  He asked Bill G. to sign it which Bill obliged.  I was sitting there thinking, "Now who keeps a computer for 28 years?".

I was sitting with a few people that I had met later in the conference who were the main organizers of the Phoenix Code Camps.  We talked about Code Camps and just generally user group stuff.  We met up a couple more times during the week and enjoyed lunch together the last day of the Summit.  I went to his blog to get more details about the upcoming Desert Code Camp and come to find out that Lorin is the type of guy who keeps a computer for 28 years.  Very nice, Lorin.  Look forward to hopefully make it out to Phoenix in May for the next Desert Code Camp.
